We Have A Winner!!!

Friday, May 29th, 2009

Barcelona has won the cup and is Europe’s best soccer team of the 2008-2009 Season. If you didn’t get a chance to catch the action you can see it on TV as they continue to replay it. It was an exciting game with an early goal. I won’t give too much away now and I’ll let you see it yourself.

All Hail Barcelona!!!

…until next year…

***Remember, soccer camp is coming up, this could be a great trivia question. Also, know who scored during the game and what the score was!

Champions League

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

Hey all,

I am sure you have all been keeping a close eye on the cup race in Europe. It has come down to Barcelona vs. Manchester United in Rome. It has been an exciting race and hopefully it will end with the most exciting game of the year so far!

TIPS:

Keep an eye on the player who is playing the same position as you in the games on TV. Watch what he does in the game, where he moves, how he acts, and attempt to replicate that in our game. This will help to teach yourself better body positioning, field positioning, and how to interact with other players in other positions on the field. This can greatly improve your game. If you want to make it even more fun, get your whole team together and watch the match. Buy some snacks and let everyone watch the game but concentrate on their position. This will hopefully get the entire team to see what it takes to win. The Champions League match is the best game to watch this for.

Summer Soccer Care

Friday, May 1st, 2009

Although we have not really had to the chance to feel some true spring whether, we have already had a taste of the summer to come. Last weekend was 80+ degrees! There wasn’t a cloud in the sky, making it very easy to dehydrate, burn, and put nicely, feel sick. Sprinklers were out, pools were opened, playgrounds were packed, and best off all soccer fields were full.

So what can be done for protection during the summer while playing soccer? There are some obvious choices.

1) Where Sunscreen – Sunburn not only hurts but severely damages the skin. Most dangerous of all, being a soccer traing and player, I am out nearly every day with a ball, and while I was just a innocent child playing, I had no idea that when I would turn just 17 I would be talk of the dermatologist’s office because I was the youngest person they have seen with malignant Melanoma! Take it from me, melanoma is very serious, accounting for 75% of all skin cancer deaths. WHERE SUNSCREEN!!!

2) Hats – This is a highly debated subject due to the fact that most hats worn by children today have the hard brim. It is a sore topic. It may help you stay cooler and keep your face from being burned, but if you are running and fall down, this hat could have turned into a weapon against your forehead. My suggestion is to be sure to where a soft brim hat.

3) Drink, Drink, Drink – For the older group, (Over 21) You need to drink WATER, or some SPORTS DRINK! No I am not approving alcoholic beverages on the soccer field. That actually does more harm than good. Save it for later. Everyone…drink as much as you can before you get to the field and while you are at the field. Being dehydrated will give you a headache, you will feel sick to your stomach, and maybe vomit. Dehydration has also led to fainting. So please…DRINK!!

These are just a few tips that can greatly improve your future as a person and improve your soccer game. For example, if you are dehydrated, you will not perform they way might hope.
